Sit. Stay. Create.
First-generation college students aren’t just earning degrees—they’re breaking generational patterns. For Chicago State University’s annual 1st Gen Scholarship Gala, I created a visual system that honors this profound journey. Like a torch passing between generations, the “Accelerate” theme illuminates how these scholars are changing their family narratives. The dynamic green elements and forward-moving typography visualize momentum not as escape velocity, but as the purposeful stride of those crossing thresholds no one in their family has crossed before.
Like a bridge spanning previously uncrossable divides—sturdy, purposeful, and transformative. The “Accelerate” theme is expressed through forward-movement visual cues that represent breaking cycles of educational inequality. The vibrant green against deep backgrounds symbolizes growth emerging from challenge, while the dynamic typography creates a sense of momentum that feels human rather than mechanical. The result is a visual language that honors both the gravity of being first and the extraordinary promise it holds—creating an experience where every step forward breaks a cycle and builds a legacy.
